Yesterday I was reading an article in The Daily> about the new mafia and particularly about Las locas, a band of women who operate human trafficking rings. I’ll tell you right off the bat I am very passionate about this topic. In a nutshell I want to see global human trafficking completely destroyed. That’s a big dream but I know it’s possible.
So in this article I read how young girls are brought from Guatemala with the hope of legitimate work but when they get here they are imprisoned and forced into prostitution. Thousands of girls, I say girls because they are usually under 15, are brought here from Guatemala. That’s one country. Thousands more are brought from many other places not to mention how many are taken from the USA and trafficked to other countries.
If I didn’t have the Spirit of the living God inside of me I would probably deal with this topic like Liam Neeson does in the movie “Taken” but that is not how God wants me to respond. I have a higher calling and its called INTERCESSION.
Isaiah 61:1-3 reads,
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”
Before I continue let me say, if anyone ever tried to hurt my wife or my kids it would be very hard for me to respond with mercy. My first reaction would be to exact my vengeance. That’s how I would want to respond but not necessarily how I would respond. I am called to set the captives free and many of the people that do the dirty work of human trafficking are just as bound as the people they imprison. I want to see this industry destroyed not the people. I want to see them saved and in an intimate relationship with Jesus.
You might be asking yourself, “Why is he putting this topic under spirituality?” That’s a good question. I’m glad you asked. It is a humanity issue, absolutely but the answer to solving this epidemic is prayer, intercession. Merriam-Webters dictionary defines the word intercede this way:
in·ter·cede verb ˌin-tər-ˈsēd
: to intervene between parties with a view to reconciling differences : mediate
— in·ter·ced·er noun
Examples of INTERCEDE
Their argument probably would have become violent if I hadn’t interceded.
When the boss accused her of lying, several other employees interceded on her behalf.
Intercession is our greatest work. Why do I say that? Because it was Jesus’ greatest work and still is. The Bible says, “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25
My job is to make an appointment between the people who are involved in human trafficking (the prisoners and the takers) and the Father and Jesus is the one who makes the connection. There are so many great causes that need intercession and this is the one that God has put on my heart. Therefore I, the servant of God, beseech you (which basically means I am begging you) to take this matter to prayer. Please join with me in believing for the complete destruction of this industry. Take up the cause. If you are willing to make a commitment with me to intercede for the lives of the people involved in human trafficking than please comment on this topic and I will keep you updated.
